Vietnamese Sacrifice
Ho Tan Anh, a member of the outlawed Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam died when he set fire to himself in Vietnam's third city, Danang. His action was a protest of fire against the repression of religious freedoms by the communist authorities.
In letters written shortly before his death, Mr Anh, a leader of the Buddhist Youth Movement told the church that another 13 of its supporters were prepared to follow his example. He also urged the international community to pressurise Vietnam to free all those detained because of their religious beliefs.
